Advent: A Season of Peace
Advent: A Season of Peace
As we enter the season of Advent, we begin a time of waiting and preparation for the celebration of Christ's birth. Advent is not just about counting down the days to Christmas, but also about reflecting on the deeper meaning of Christ's coming into the world—bringing light to our darkness, hope to our despair, and peace to our hearts.
In a world often marked by division, anxiety, and turmoil, Advent invites us to focus on the peace that Christ offers. The Prophet Isaiah, in the Old Testament, beautifully foretells this peace when he says:
"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given... and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6)
Jesus, the Prince of Peace, came to bring reconciliation not only between humanity and God but also among people. In the Gospel of John, Jesus assures us of the peace He offers:
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." (John 14:27)
This peace is not the absence of trouble but the presence of God’s comfort and assurance in the midst of it. Advent calls us to prepare our hearts to receive this peace anew, to allow Christ's presence to calm our fears and fill us with His tranquility.
As we light the candles of the Advent wreath, each flicker reminds us of the light of Christ breaking through the darkness of our world. This season, let us embrace the peace that Christ offers, allowing it to shape our hearts and minds, and extend it to others. May the Advent season be a time of quiet reflection, a time to receive God’s peace, and a time to share that peace with the world.
Let us pray for hearts that are open to Christ’s peace, and lives that reflect His love to all we meet.
